Kenneth
L. Medlin
In early 2003, Ken co-founded The Medlin Group LLC. His experience
around what corporate leaders need most to ensure the sustained
success of their teams and organizations is a foundational element
of the company’s service offerings. Ken’s professional
and consultative expertise in building and investing great teams
that were accountable for their own performance was a driving motivator
for The Medlin Group’s portfolio of services.
Throughout
his educational and professional career, both team and individual
sports and spending time in nature have played an important role
in Ken’s background. In fact, Ken’s first job with Atlantic
National Bank after college combined his educational competencies
with the fact that he was also pretty good at slow-pitch softball.
It was also in this role that Ken’s appreciation of the fiduciary
responsibility of both company leadership and employee corporate
citizens was highlighted. As a senior bank auditor, Ken saw first-hand
the ethical, financial, and working principles upon which strong
businesses are founded, grounded, and operated.
Following his service in the banking industry, Ken began what
turned out to be a highly decorated, multi-decade career in telecommunications.
With over twenty-five years in the industry first with Southern
Bell and then with AT&T, Ken attained the role of Vice President
for AT&T and ran the State of Florida for the company. Ken’s
enjoyment and success as a sales leader, from individual contributor
to senior level executive, stems from his keen understanding of
the interwoven disciplines selling requires. In his role, not only
did he consistently achieve the increasingly important internal
goals set for him and his team, but he was also closely involved
with critical client organization, providing him with a wealth of
operational experience and a broad base of industry knowledge. One
of the critical learnings which Ken infused into the teams he led
was the significance of the corporation’s Common Bond. These
published values and standards were the baseline for conduct and
communication, critical attributes in coalescing team members toward
a vision and set of executable goals.
While balancing his executive responsibilities at AT&T, Ken
also served as the Chairman of the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce,
the Central Florida Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Heart of
Florida United Way. In addition, he was a Board member of the Rollins
College Crummer Graduate School of Business where he helped to oversee
business operations and fund-raising for the school and instituted
a new program, the International Business Case Competition. Ken
was also appointed by the Governor of the State of Florida to the
Board of Directors of Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified
Enterprises, Inc., a position he held for two years. Through his
service to these non-profit organizations, Ken noted some critical
leadership take-aways. He saw the palpable difference a compelling
leader with an articulated vision could make for an organization
and how that leader and vision could give hope to constituencies
often forgotten or ignored by mainstream culture. This hope and
optimism was directly proportional to the passion exuded by the
leader, passion the leader had for their organization, their cause,
and for the impact of what they were doing. All of these observations
helped shape Ken’s own leadership style as well as the foundational
beliefs of The Medlin Group.
Following Ken’s career at AT&T, he opted to take a leadership
role in a small management consulting company. As Vice President
of Sales, he was responsible for the company’s entire revenue
stream and, correspondingly, for all client interaction, needs assessments,
engagement definitions, and deliverables. During Ken’s tenure,
the company’s annual revenues grew more than 10-fold from
less than $100,000 to over $1 million, predominantly because of
the extensive network of influential executives that trusted Ken
to deliver value and relevance to their teams as well as their own
requirements. As a result, Ken designed and directed tailored solutions
in the areas of executive leadership and coaching, executive leadership
team development, sales and sales performance, leadership measurement/accountability,
and strategic planning/focus. His recommendations around corporate
leadership, strategy formulation and implementation, leadership
consulting, and sales management have led to measurable improvements
in performance and in results to the companies, teams, and individuals
he has served.
Ken earned his BA in Management from National Lewis University.
In addition to his role as President and Co-Founder of The Medlin
Group LLC, Ken is an active member of his church and the Greater
Denver urban community. He remains enthusiastically involved in
his passion for nature and the outdoors.
